The Celtic Voyage CD - The KellsA carefully researched abd superbly performed album inspired by the Irish migration in the 1840's. Between 1846 and 1847, due to the famine, over a million people died and a further million were compelled to emigrate to America. The album begins with "Farewell to Erin " and "The Leaving", gentle haunting airs reflecting the aching sadness of leaving homes and loved ones. Onward, across the great Atlantic Ocean, the travellers' thoughts and dreams are reflected with poignant virtuosity in "The Voyage", "Banks Of The Lee" and "Far From Home". After many weeks at sea an ethereal apparation slowly appears from the early morning mist. It is the New World, a land of hope, inspiration and spiritual rebirth. "Peeler Creek Waltz" and "Hear You, Boys" embody the magical essence and excitement of this New Beginning and convey the feelings of life in a new land. Finally, as the years pass and new generations grow it is time for "Reflection" as "Lark in the Clear Air" and "Skibberreen" rekindle treasured memories of green hills, heather clad mountains, sparkling rivers and Ireland, our home.
